Musician by vocation
In 2009, Rasmus turned music into his profession. Although you'll never hear him refer to it as "work." When Rasmus has a performance, whether he's officially booked or playing street music, he says: "I'm going to play," because he doesn't want to call it work. For him, it’s more about giving and receiving, an exchange of energy.
Once, when Rasmus was playing street music in a small town square in Germany, I overheard a little boy ask his father as they walked by: "Dad, why is the man playing music here?" The response, as if it came straight from the heart, was: "To make people happy."
His first album, incessant on its way, was recorded by Rasmus in collaboration with musician and producer Alexander Collatz and released in 2012 under his own label, SumsaRecords. In addition to the 12 tracks on the album and other original songs, he performs cover songs from artists like Cat Stevens, Simon & Garfunkel, Damien Rice, Oasis, Coldplay, and many more.
He plays at city festivals, family gatherings, Christmas markets, weddings, openings, or private living room concerts, but he is always drawn back to street music. Throughout the year, you can find him and his music in small to medium-sized cities all over Germany and sometimes around the world. He himself likes to call street music "the safety in the uncertain business" and loves playing unplugged in both new and familiar places, always eager for new encounters.
With his distinctive, powerful yet soulful voice and expressive guitar accompaniment, Rasmus doesn't create background music. Instead, he captures your full attention, inviting you to pause in our hectic world and simply enjoy the moment.
And if he’s taking a little break, you’ll surely recognize him by his hat and his red guitar...
